A recent book we've been reading and loving is called TheBirth Order Connection: Finding and Keeping the Love of Your Life.
The author, Kevin Lehman, uses the distinctions of birth order (whether you're a
first born, middle or last born) and shows how they affect all our
relationships - whether married, dating or single. Here's a little quiz for you to take to see how well you know your birth
order tendencies & how it relates to marriage. (Again, these are
generalities...)
#1. If you are a first born, your best match for marriage is with a
a. another first born
b. middle born
c. last born
Answer: C Why? A first born can teach a last
born how to be better organized. There are times when life must be
taken a bit more seriously! :) The last born will also help keep you laughing and to see the fun in life. Two first borns who marry, however, will constantly be competing.
#2. If you are a middle born, your best match for marriage is with a
a. first born
b. another middle born
c. last born
Answer: ALL - lucky duck! :) Why? As a
middle born, you are, generally speaking, much more accomodating and learn to
adapt to others well. You like to keep the peace and not rock the boat
too much. However, if you marry a first born, you might be inclined to
give up your desires for a stronger first-born personality. If you marry
another middle born, the biggest area to focus on is your communication.
Middles tend to be more secretive and it's harder to draw them out. If
you marry a last born, be careful not to be pulled into a last born's
tendencies towards a more irresponsible life-style.
#3 If you are a last born, your best match for marriage is with a
a. first born
b. middle born
c. last born
Answer: A or B Why? As a last born,
you can teach a first born that it's ok to have fun once in a while!
:) If you marry a middle with some first born characteristics, then most
likely that would be a great match too! Two last borns, however, will have no one to take charge and get things done!
This is just a little taste of wisdom. If you're already married and your birth order is working against your relationship, the key for you is: understanding. Just figuring out why they are the way they are will go a long way in learning how to use your strengths and weaknesses to work together well.
